We met Theo for the first time at a dog park in urban Cleveland. A man from the rescue agency met us there. He was a decent-sized man, but the big black dog on the end of his leash was pulling him here, there, and everywhere. I wondered if I would have the ability to deal with that kind of power!
Off the leash, Theo was playful and unintimidated by other dogs. He drank a lot of water. He seemed to gravitate to Sue the most. He seemed strong and noble. Here was the dog I had dreamed of, and even though there was no moment where he looked deeply into my eyes with eternal gratitude, I knew he should come live with us. And he would. And eventually, I would receive those looks and much more.
